Mathura and Vrindavan- A journey to your heart
Land of sanctity, spirituality and peace. Land of RADHEKRISHNA.yes! i am talking about Vrindavan and it's twin city Mathura(birthplace of lord krishna). If one wants to have a spiritual vacation it is the best place to go.Once you go there you'll definitely want to visit again.
I remember almost everything about the place as I used to go there almost everyyear with my family. The place is very close to my heart not only because of the beauty of the place but my attachment to lord krishna.
As soon as you step into vrindavan you can hear everyone from the rikshawpullers to the priests chanting 'radhe radhe'.Vrindavan is scattered with temples of Radhe krishna so it is impossible to visit all of them but yeah if you have a couple of days you could manage to visit the most famous ones.
In one of my trips I remember we started with krishna janambhumi in Mathura and saw the jail were lord krishna was born.
we headed to Nidhivan a place full of mysteries. It is believed that no one is allowed in the premises after sandhya aarti as the tulsi trees turn into gopicas to perform rasleela with lord krishna. It has a place inside it called rang mahal where bed of sandalwood is made and glass of water along with ladoos are kept and in the morning the bed seems as if someone had slept in it.But nobody knows wether it is a myth or truth!
A visit to the famous Banke bihari mandir is a must obviously. It's mostly very crowded so it is better to avoid going there on weekends specially if there small children or elderly people with you.The best part i remember about the temple are the sizzling hot malpuas along with rabdi sold across the streets adjacent to the temple.
we visited few more places like chir ghat the spot where lord krishna stole the clothes of the gopis bathing in the river.Few sarees were draped around the tree to symbolise the event. One of the places i loved the most as a kid is the 'shisha mahal' the whole temple decorated with shimmering pieces of mirror was a treat to the eyes! and also the recently constructed prem mandir. The best time to visit that temple is after sunset as you can enjoy the colourful lightings there.
How can i forget about the most famous and divine "ISKON" temple. it is one place which will be loved by people of all ages.It is an edifice in white made up of marbel and embedded with stones.many foreigners could be seen there in their khadi sarees and dhotis who has been converted to hinduism and devoted their lives to lord krishna.
The place is full of positive vibrations and divinity .The melodious aarti, the powerful chanting of "hare krishna hare rame" and the spiritual dancimg gave me immense pleasure. If you want to have a piece of mind you should definitely spend a couple of days in iskon to know the true meaning of spirituality.
And finally we went for a parikrama of the govardhan giri the 18 km long path is not a cup of cake for everyone. Though it was very tiring it was a wonderful experience.
